Evergreen has announced a $2.8 billion investment in 14 LNG dual-fuel containerships, marking its second major order split between Chinese and South Korean shipyards. The 14,000 TEU vessels will be evenly divided, with seven ships each to be built by China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.
The Taiwanese shipping giant currently operates a fleet of 236 containerships, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global shipping industry.
Earlier this year, in March, Evergreen Marine placed an order for 11 ultra-large 24,000 TEU boxships, also split between Chinese and South Korean yards. Guangzhou Shipyard International is constructing five of these vessels, while Hanwha Ocean is building six—marking its first collaboration with Evergreen.
To support its expanding fleet, Evergreen has also signed agreements to procure over 90,000 containers, valued at approximately $220 million. The contracts were awarded to Dong Fang International Container (Hong Kong), CIMC, Singamas, and Guangdong Fuwa Engineering.
