In this edition of Apollo in the Spotlight, we turn our attention to Miriam Herrera, a passionate logistics professional from DSC Logistics Group, based in the heart of Mexico City, Mexico. With a strong foundation built on family legacy and a forward-thinking approach to innovation and sustainability, Miriam brings both heart and strategy to the logistics field. From growing up inspired by her father’s dedication to now leading with her own vision, she exemplifies what it means to evolve with the industry while staying grounded in purpose.
How did you get started in the logistics industry, and what has your journey been like up to this point?
I got started in logistics after deciding to study International Commerce in high school. I was inspired by my father, Edgar Herrera, CEO of Distribution Service Cargo (DSC). I witnessed his dedication and passion for logistics from a young age, I remember visiting the office and being fascinated by every area of the company, that experience truly captured my interest and set me on this path.
How have you seen technology transform logistics in the past five years, and what are you most excited about for the future?
In my opinion, logistics have transformed significantly in the last five years, especially after the pandemic. The global crisis highlighted the essential role of logistics in delivering medicine, medical equipment, and other critical supplies. I’m also excited about how companies are now focusing on sustainability, developing hybrid trucks and exploring eco-friendly alternatives to reduce environmental impact.
What does innovation mean to you in the context of logistics, and how do you foster it in your organization?
For me, innovation in logistics means constant operational improvement. At our company, we are committed to continuous improvement to keep our team motivated and maintain high-quality service. We’re proud to be ISO 9001 certified, which reflects our dedication to quality management and innovation.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting in your line of work?
Be patient, work hard, and truly love what you do, especially logistics. Passion makes all the difference in this field.
If you could change one thing about the logistics industry, what would it be and what impact do you think it would have?
One key area I would change is how we handle big data and cybersecurity. With the rise of AI, the risk of data breaches that could disrupt supply chains and cause serious financial consequences is increasing. Additionally, I believe Green Logistics should be a global priority. For instance, recent vessel incidents have underscored the urgent need for stricter packaging and safety regulations when it comes to shipping hazardous materials. While these changes might cause delays in the short term, they would ultimately protect both the environment and the industry.
What motivated you to join this network, and has it met your expectations so far?
I was motivated by the opportunity to network with other professionals in the industry. So far, we’ve worked with a few agents, and the experience has been very positive.
What’s one thing you think makes Apollo network different from other professional associations or logistics groups?
The closeness of the service, I mean how everyone is genuinely connected and committed to building relationships and supporting each other.
How do you spend your free time?
I enjoy enrolling into courses related to logistics, spending time with my son and visiting small and charming places in Mexico.
If your workday had a theme song, what would it be?
Viva la vida by Cold Play.
Thank you, Miriam, for sharing your inspiring journey and thoughtful insights.
