Apollo in the Spotlight features Kwon Taemin of Seacon Co. Ltd, based in Seoul, South Korea. In this edition, he shares his unexpected entry into the logistics industry, his views on technology and AI, and what drives him in his day-to-day role. His perspective highlights the importance of adaptability, problem-solving, and human connection in today’s global logistics landscape.
Tell us a bit about how your journey began – was it something you always planned, or did it take you by surprise?
It was completely unexpected. I didn’t even know what freight forwarding was at the time . I entered the industry by chance, but I was quickly drawn to its global nature and the dynamic challenges that come with it.
What trends or technologies are you most excited (or concerned) about in logistics right now?
I’m particularly excited about real-time visibility tools and automation, as they significantly improve efficiency and transparency in logistics. At the same time, data security remains an important concern as technology continues to advance.
Do you believe AI will replace certain logistics roles, or simply empower them? Why?
I believe AI will empower logistics professionals rather than replace them. By automating routine tasks, it allows us to focus more on strategy and customer service. However, the human elements—such as relationship building, negotiation, and complex decision-making—remain essential and, in my view, irreplaceable.
What do you enjoy most about the logistics industry, and what( makes your role particularly fulfilling?
What I enjoy most is that no day is ever the same. I like solving problems and securing new customers, and seeing the growth in both volume and profit is very rewarding—it reassures me that we’re doing something right.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting in your line of work?
Problems don’t disappear—they get solved step by step. My advice is to be the problem solver, not just the problem reporter.
You’ve been with us for a few months now – how has the journey been so far? Any highlights or surprises?
It’s been a good start so far, and I’ve had a positive experience. That said, I believe I need a bit more time to collaborate with more partners and fully explore the network’s potential.
If you had to describe this network to a new contact or colleague in one sentence, what would you say?
To be honest, it’s still a bit early for me to fully describe it, but one thing is clear—it’s a very promising and engaging network.
What’s a surprising skill, passion, or hobby you have outside work?
I still enjoy playing StarCraft. Yes, that classic real time strategy game from the late ‘90s!
Thank you, Kwon Taemin, for sharing your insights with us.
