The aircraft departed from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and was en route to Honolulu when it went down around 5:15 PM local time.
The crash occurred near UPS Worldport, the company’s largest global sorting facility, located at the Louisville airport. The impact caused a significant fire that spread over an area nearly a mile long. Aerial footage from local media showed a large blaze illuminating the night sky.
During a press conference, Governor Andy Beshear confirmed the initial casualty numbers, stating that at least seven people were killed and eleven were injured. He noted that these figures are preliminary and could change. Some of the injured sustained “very serious” wounds and are receiving care at local hospitals.
Governor Beshear also expressed concern for the flight crew, whose status is currently unknown. He urged the public to pray for the best possible outcome, referencing a past tragedy where initial casualty estimates were much higher than the final count.
